In this video lesson, I walk you through the steps of incorporating real-time English spell checking into your GameMaker Studio projects! Add a lexicon of over 250,000 words that can be cross-referenced by simple script calls.
Spell checking is essential to word games like Words With Friends and Ruzzle. Imagine playing Words With Friends but the game doesn't check whether the tiles you place form a word. Then you'd just be able to place a bunch of random tiles to score points. And that's no fun! Checking whether or not a string of text appears in a dictionary is the backbone, and a major rule, of many word games.
This lightweight code can be expanded to create autocorrect or autocomplete features.
